| Depositor: | Riken |
| Organism: | Homo sapiens (human) |
| Ethnicity: | Caucasian |
| Age/Stage: | 13 years |
| Gender: | female |
| Tissue: | bone |
| Morphology: | A mixture of fibroblasts and epithelial like cells |
| Celltype: | sarcoma, osteogenic |
| Growth Properties: | monolayer |
| Description: | HOS cells exhibit a flat morphology, low saturation density, low plating efficiency in soft agar and are sensitive to chemical and viral transformation. The cells express alkaline phosphatase under basal conditions (Clover J, 1994). |
| Culture Medium: | Minimum essential medium (Eagle) in Earle's BSS supplemented with 2 mM L-glutamine, 1 mM non-essential amino acids (NEA) and 10% fetal bovine serum. |
| Subculturing: | Remove medium and rinse with 0.02% EDTA solution. Add fresh 0.025% trypsin solution for 2 to 4 minutes at 37°C. Stop the enyme activity by adding fresh medium, aspirate and dispense into new flasks. |
| Split Ratio: | A ratio of 1:2 to 1:4 is recommended |
| Fluid Renewal: | 2 to 3 times weekly |
| Freeze Medium: | CM-1, Cell Lines Service |
| Sterility: | Tests for mycoplasma, bacteria and fungi were negative |
| Biosafety Level: | 1 |
