Designation:KB
Depositor:Althoff
Organism:Human
Tissue:mouth
Morphology:epithelial
Celltype:carcinoma, epidermoid
Growth Properties:monolayer
Description:Cells of this line contain HeLa marker chromosomes, and were derived via HeLa contamination. The cells are positive for keratin by immunoperoxidase staining. KB cells have been reported to contain human papillomavirus 18 (HPV-18) sequences.
Culture Medium:Minimum essential medium (Eagle) in Earle's BSS supplemented with 1% non-essential amino acids and 10% fetal bovine serum.
Subculturing:Remove medium, add fresh 0.025% trypsin/0.02% EDTA solution for 2 to 4 minutes, remove trypsin and incubate at 37°C for 5 to 10 minutes. Add fresh medium, aspirate and dispense into new flasks.
Split Ratio:A ratio of 1:4 to 1:10 is recommended
Fluid Renewal:2 to 3 times weekly
Freeze Medium:CM-1 (CLS ∙ Cell Lines Service)
Sterility:Tests for mycoplasma, bacteria and fungi were negative
Biosafety Level:2
Karyotype:2n = 46
HeLa Markers:Yes
Isoenzymes:G6PD, type A
Reverse Transcriptase:negative
Virus Susceptibility:poliovirus 1; adenovirus 3
Products:keratin
