| Description: | The MSTO-211H cell line was established in 1985 from the pleural effusion of a patient with biphasic mesothelioma of the lung. The patient had not received prior radiation or chemotherapy. MSTO-211H cells have high affinity binding sites for EGF and express Neuron specific enolase (NSE) as well as the alpha and beta subunits of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). L-DOPA decarboxylase (DDC), bombesin and neurotensin were not detected. The cells overexpress the c-myc protooncogene, and no gene rearrangement or amplification was observed. |
| Culture Medium: | RPMI 1640 medium supplemented with 2 mM L-glutamine, and 10% fetal bovine serum. |
| Subculturing: | The cells can reach a saturation density of 400000 cells per cm2, but will slough off the surface as they attain this density. Remove spent medium, add fresh 0.025% trypsin, 0.03% EDTA solution, rinse and remove trypsin. Add fresh trypsin, and let the culture sit at room temperature (or at 37°C) until the cells detach. Add fresh medium, aspirate and dispense into new flasks. |
| Split Ratio: | A ratio of 1:3 to 1:6 is recommended |
| Fluid Renewal: | every 2 to 3 days |
| Doubling Time: | 20 hrs |
| Freeze Medium: | CM-1 (CLS ∙ Cell Lines Service) |
| Sterility: | Tests for mycoplasma, bacteria and fungi were negative |
| Biosafety Level: | 1 |
| Tumorigenic: | yes, tumors for med in approximately 20% of nude mice inoculated with MSTO-211H cells |
