Designation:AGS
Depositor:Barranco
Organism:Homo sapiens (human)
Ethnicity:Caucasian
Age/Stage:54 years
Gender:female
Tissue:stomach
Morphology:epithelial
Celltype:gastric adenocarcinoma
Growth Properties:monolayer
Description:The AGS cell line was derived from fragments of a biopsy specimen of an untreated human adenocarcinoma of the stomach.
This cell line may release Parainfluenzavirus Type 5 (formerly known as Simian Virus 5). The virus interferes with Interferon-signalling within the cell line by degradation of STAT1.
Culture Medium:DMEM supplemented with 2 mM L-glutamine and 10% fetal bovine serum.
Subculturing:Remove medium and rinse monolayer with 0.02% EDTA solution. Add fresh 0.025% trypsin/0.020% EDTA solution and let the culture incubate at 37°C until the cells detach. Add fresh medium, remove trypsin by centrifugation and dispense into new flasks.
Split Ratio:A ratio of 1:2 to 1:6 is recommended
Doubling Time:20 hrs
Freeze Medium:CM-1 (CLS Cell Lines Service)
Sterility:Tests for mycoplasma (DAPI), bacteria and fungi were negative
Biosafety Level:2
Tumorigenic:yes, in athymic BALB/c mice
Karyotype:modal number = 47; range = 39 to 92
